AO Foundation offers a PhD position at the AO Research Institute Davos, academically affiliated with the University of Fribourg. Tasks
- Select enzyme-degradable linker sequences and develop hyaluronan hydrogel crosslinkers
- Characterize hydrogels using NMR, FT-IR and rheology
- Evaluate enzyme-triggered degradation and model-compound release kinetics
- Develop hydrogel loading and release strategies for small-molecule immunomodulators
- Assess hydrogel performance and released modulators in in vitro neutrophil assays
- Analyse and report results and present them at conferences
Requirements
- Master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biomaterials science/engineering or a related discipline
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Ability to design, plan and execute experimental studies independently
- Strong interest in biomaterials science, innate immunity and translational research
- Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment
- Interest in orthopaedic device-related infection and microbiology
Nice to have
- Practical experience in polymer derivatization and preparation or characterization of soft biomaterials
- Practical experience preparing micro- or nanoparticles for delivery systems
- Experience with tissue cell culture and immunological assays, especially primary immune cells or neutrophils
- Familiarity with 3D cell/tissue culture
