Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is hiring three PhD students in Kastanienbaum. The four-year project studies evolution and community assembly in Southern Greenland lakes, with doctoral enrolment at the University of Bern.
Tasks
- Study copepod ecology and evolution across lakes with different community assembly
- Investigate stickleback adaptive capacity and the genetic basis of evolvable traits
- Study causes and consequences of stickleback evolution in lakes
- Conduct field work and lab work, including organism rearing and phenotyping
- Analyse genetic data and conduct bioinformatics
- Survey fish and invertebrate communities and quantify lake ecosystem functioning
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Organismal Biology or Environmental Science
- Interest in evolutionary ecology and/or molecular ecology for the copepod project
- Interest in population and/or quantitative genetics for the stickleback genomics project
- Interest in evolutionary ecology and ecosystem sciences for the ecosystem project
- Enjoyment of collaborative and international work and interest in integrating and synthesising research
