CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research hires in Geneva for the Controls Section of its Engineering Department. The role covers the lifecycle of industrial control systems for cooling and ventilation installations on a limited-duration contract of 5 years.

Tasks

  • Define control system requirements and functional specifications
  • Design, develop, test and validate PLC software using CERN UNICOS
  • Configure, commission, maintain and upgrade industrial control systems
  • Coordinate technicians and junior engineers and supervise contractors
  • Manage technical procurements, service contracts and supplier relations
  • Provide operational support and troubleshoot cooling and ventilation control systems

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Industrial Automation, Process Control or a related field
  • Proficiency designing, implementing and commissioning PLC systems using IEC 61131-3
  • Experience specifying industrial control system hardware architectures and control strategies
  • Experience testing, validating and troubleshooting industrial control systems
  • Experience configuring and deploying SCADA/HMI systems
  • Spoken and written English; commitment to learn French
  • Valid driving licence

Nice to have

  • Experience operating and maintaining industrial control systems and supporting users
  • Experience with Siemens and/or Schneider PLC platforms
  • Knowledge of C++, Python, Java, AI technologies or advanced control techniques
  • Knowledge of CERN UNICOS or cooling and ventilation
